There are fewer more spectacular courses than St Moritz in the Engadin Valley with the Swiss Alps in the background. The course itself is just 6 furlongs round and is covered in snow and ice during racing. The meeting is known as the White Turf meeting and first took place in 1907, consisting of racing, trotting and skijoring races. Skijoring races have jockeys in two on skis behind their horses and first took place in February 1906. Racing is only held in February and takes place on 3 consecutive Sundays. The principal race is the Group 2 Grand Prix of St Moritz over 2000 metres for 3 year olds and upwards. The course also hosts the Sheik Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Listed Cup over 1800 metres for 3 year olds and upwards. |
